Olivier & Schreiber LLP (“O&S”) is pleased to welcome Rachel Bien, a leading class action employment litigator, as a Partner.  Bien will be based in Los Angeles and will lead O&S’s southern California employment practice.

Bien comes to O&S after almost 15 years at Outten & Golden LLP, a national employment law firm, where she was a Partner and served as Co-Chair of its Class & Collective Action Practice Group.

“We are thrilled to have Rachel join the firm,” said O&S’s founding partner Monique Olivier. “She has a wealth of experience litigating complex employment class actions and will be a fantastic representative of the firm’s commitment to workers and the communities we serve.”

Bien is committed to protecting workers’ rights under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and state and local wage laws.  She has litigated and successfully settled many cases involving workers who were misclassified by their employers as exempt from overtime protections or labeled as “independent contractors” and denied overtime pay and other benefits.  She was lead counsel in Glatt v. Fox Searchlight Pictures, Inc., one of the first cases to test whether interns should be paid for their work on behalf of a private employer.  Bien consistently advocates for, and achieves, interpretations of the law that advance the rights of all workers, including those who are most vulnerable to abuse.

“Co-counseling with O&S for the past two years has been among the most collaborative and fulfilling experiences of my career. I am very excited to join this team of creative lawyers and help to expand their presence in Southern California,” Bien said.

Bien is an active member of the employment law bar.  She serves on the Executive Committee of the State Bar of California’s Labor and Employment Law Section and is a member of the California Employment Lawyers Association (“CELA”). Bien is also on the Board of the Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation, a non-profit created by and for restaurant workers.  She speaks frequently on wage and hour topics.

Bien graduated cum laude from Brooklyn Law School in 2005 and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Thomas G. Nelson on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Bien is licensed in New York and California.
